Monet to Picasso - Shakespeare to Simon

Artistic exhibits and productions are attracting attention in Utah this summer, providing an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to enjoy enriching experiences. Communities large and small host cultural events and visitors are always welcome to join the fun.

Some Utah happenings attract widespread attention. Below we list a few summer events worth seeking out:

Monet to Picasso
This is one of the most interesting art exhibits ever to come to Utah, and it is now open at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City.

Traveling from the Cleveland Museum of Art, the exhibit includes masterworks by such renowned artists as Renoir, Degas, Monet, van Gogh, Dalí, Picasso and Matisse. It runs through Sept 21, in the museum's first floor galleries.

Utah Shakespearean Festival
The Tony Award winning Utah Shakespearean Festival summer season runs through August 30. A fall season quickly follows, running from September 19 to October 25.

This festival is headquartered in Cedar City.

Productions this year include:

  • Othello
  • Two Gentlemen of Verona
  • The Taming of the Shrew
  • Julius Caesar
  • Fiddler on the Roof
  • The School for Wives
  • Cyrano de Bergerac
  • Neil Simon Festival
    Also in Cedar City, the Neil Simon Festival runs Jul 17 through Aug 9. It features two of Neil Simon's best plays - "Brighton Beach Memoirs" and "Fools." A third offering this year will be the delightful musical comedy, "I Do! I Do!" (book & lyrics by Tom Jones, music by Harvey Schmidt).

    Tuacahn Theater
    In the St George area, Tuacahn offers "Broadway in the Desert," musicals performed amid the red rocks at the mouth of Snow Canyon. This season runs through Oct 18 with these productions in the lineup:

  • Les Miserables
  • Sound of Music
  • Big River
  • High School Musical
  • Park City Kimball Arts Festival
    Enjoy art and mountain air at the Kimball Arts Festival, Aug 1-3. It features 225 selected artists, Utah's Castle Creek wines, three beer gardens, food and three stages with 30 live bands. Artists include potters, painters, jewelry designers and much more!
