Utah Travel Tips

Snowmobile Utah

The snow that makes Utah a famous ski destination piles deep in our mountains and creates a paradise for snowmobilers. As a result, some of America's best snowmobile trails are found here.

Some of the crew from Utah.com recently enjoyed a guided snowmobile tour with Lofty Peaks Adventures, out of Midway, Utah. They went into the Wasatch Mountains State Park area, between Midway and Park City, and had a great time. Along the way they took the photos that illustrate this newsletter.

It is an exhilarating feeling to fly up a snowy ridge, blurred trees racing by, up to a mountain peak where you can see forever.

Lofty Peaks offers an excellent guide service - we recommend them for guided tours in that area. We work with a number of other top
notch companies - see our preferred providers for guided trips and machine rentals.

Utah has 17 designated snowmobile complexes, with more than 1,200 miles of groomed trails. Many of those trails interconnect to form routes that stretch as far as you want - from the red rock country of southern Utah, along the Skyline Drive, into the Uinta Basin, past Mirror Lake and Bear Lake, and other attractions. Some connect with routes in Idaho and Wyoming, with some leading up into the Yellowstone area.

If you want fresh powder, Utah has plenty. We offer thousands of acres of high-mountain bowls and play areas that can be accessed from the groomed trail complexes.

If you have your own sleds, bring them. If you want to rent machines and clothing, you can do that and ride without a guide. If you want a guided tour, we have excellent companies ready to customize a trip to meet your interests.

Bryce Canyon Winter Festival

This popular annual festival is held at Ruby's Inn, the gateway to Bryce Canyon. From Rubys you can jump on snowmobile trails that climb the mountains around the park and provide outstanding views of Bryce Canyon Country.

Events at the festival include cross country ski races, an archery clinic, archery biathlon competition, free snowshoe tours, free clinics in photography, snow sculpture, kids' events, entertainment and more. Events may be subject to change due to snow and weather conditions. Call: (435) 834-5341 or 1-866-866-6616.

National Park Trips

Now's the time to plan routes and make reservations for summer national park trips. See our Color Country National Parks Map and Guide. Now is also the time to reserve campgrounds.

Year-Round Golf

The golf courses around St George become busy in March but they are usually not crowded in late January and February. Late winter days can be very nice on the links, with temperatures pushing into the mid or upper 50s.
